	What Is Side Grip Technology? Surprisingly, side grip technology is not a new idea, it has been in this country for about 10 years with varying levels of success. As opposed to traditional installation techniques, where all installation and extraction is carried out from the top, side grip technology is as it says, gripping from the side. This ability allows the piling rig to be based around a traditional excavator, this in itself allows a piling rig that is extremely versatile and agile, and is not only limited to the installation and extraction of sheet piles. The design of the side grip piling hammer does allow for pile top installation and in addition to this has a unique feature which allows sheet piles to be picked up straight from the pack without any manual slinging. This feature eliminates the need for any additional crainage on-site and in certain situations allows the pile installation/extraction to become a one-man operation.
